Dental prosthetics is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and morpho-functional and aesthetic maintenance of the patient's dento-maxillary system.
Dental prosthetics restores teeth through fixed work (veneers, crowns and bridges) as well as removable work (full or partial dentures, framework dentures with special attachments, and implant-supported dentures).
When part of the tooth is missing and cannot be restored with a filling, or when the tooth walls are too thin, the tooth must be covered with a crown so that it can continue to withstand chewing pressure.
If a tooth is missing from the arch and the resulting gap is bordered by teeth that are not sound — damaged, decayed or already filled — a dental bridge is used.
If the gap left after extraction is bordered by sound teeth, restoring the incomplete arch with an implant is recommended.
Crowns and bridges are fixed prosthetic restorations. If a large number of teeth have been lost, a denture is used instead, which must be removed daily for cleaning.
